Pigmentation
What is Pigmentation?

Pigmentation is the process of discolouration of the skin caused by exposure to the sun, which typically results in darker patches of the skin and uneven skin tone. In some cases, hormonal changes due to pregnancy or oral contraceptives may also exacerbate such changes.

The sun contributes to 80% of visible skin ageing.

What causes Pigmentation?

Exposure to harmful ultra-violet (UV) rays from the sun, or sun beds, stimulates the production of melanin, within our skin cells. This melanin will then come up to our skin’s surface in order to protect it from this UV damage. Therefore, suntanned skin is the result of an increase in melanin production. While a suntan will fade over time, when melanin is overproduced because of significant UV exposure, it will cause longer lasting pigmentation and age spots.

Treatment for Pigmentation at Elite Skin Studio

Pigmentation is a difficult concern to treat, as the damage is caused at such a deep level in our skin, and prevention (daily SPF) is always better than cure. However, with an effective home-care routine built around Vitamin A and high-strength Vitamin C, alongside Studio treatments, we can greatly reduce and manage your pigmentation and age spots.
